TFtember: War of the Dinobots

"War of the Dinobots", The Transformers, November 24 1984.

And thus we end another feature here at Geekademia.

We open with Chip working at an observatory. He spots a meteor giving off weird readings, so he calls in the Autobots. Prime decides to bring in the Dinobots as backup.

Back at the Decepticon base, Megatron is fuming over their defeat at the hands and claws of the Dinobots. Starscream protests that they were better warriors, but that answer doesn't sooth Megatron much. He sends Soundwave out to find out a way to crush the robot dinosaurs.

Prime takes a chunk of the meteor back to the Ark, leaving the Dinobots to guard the rest. Back at the Ark, Ratchet and Wheeljack decide what they need are more Dinobots. Chip suggests two, a Stegosaurus and a Pteranodon.

Soundwave uses his rarely mentioned mind reading power to scan the Dinobots and tell Megatron that Grimlock is arrogant, Slag is hostile, and Sludge is dumb as a post. Seems that should apply to all of them, as the Decepticons arrive at the meteor site and greets them warmly. He also suggests why, if the Dinobots are so strong, do they follow such a weak leader like Optimus Prime?

Grimlock figures this is a good point, so he takes Slag and Sludge to go fight the rest of the Autobots. At the base, Prime and Ratchet watch as Snarl and Swoop are created. Wheeljack also finds that the fragment is crazy unstable. Trailbreaker manages to save the Ark with one of his force fields. Prime figures the rest of the Dinobots should know this, so he rushes back to the site. They're gone and so's the meteor!

Then Grimlock shows up and beats down Prime. They stop short of killing him, opting to take him back to the Decepticon. Starscream remarks they only brought Prime back alive is due to them being weak. Grimlock shoots him in the face.

Prime tries to warn Megatron about the meteorite being unstable but he doesn't believe him. Snarl and Swoop get sent in to find out what's going on. The meteorite energon cubes start to explode as the new Dinobots arrive. Grimlock is nearly blown up, but Prime saves him. This finally convinces Grimlock that Prime is a good guy. With the meteorite blown up, Prime declares the day is saved.

Decent. Another Donald F. Glut episode. The Dinobots come across as pretty dim but also a fearsome force.
