Updates for the rest of 2021

Ok, got some irons in the fire. The rest of the year will more or less be:

September: TFtember

All Transformers, all the time! Yes, every day in September we'll be taking a look at a different piece of the TF franchise.

October: Horror 2021 Countdown/Horror Host Retrospective

As before, we'll be doing a different horror film every day, plus we'll be taking a special look at the horror hosts of Ohio.

November: Cool down, plus miscellaneous posts.

December: Art Jam, this time we'll be doing every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

As for 2022, well, let's get through the next few weeks before we going doing anything else.

Saturday, August 28, 2021

Class of Nuke'Em High 2: Subhumanoid Meltdown (1991) dirs. Eric Louzil and Donald G. Jackson, Troma Entertainment

And so we end another feature here at Geekademia. Since we already did Toxie's follow up, why not end with the second's second entry?

Rough Magik (2000)

Rough Magik (2000) dir. Jamie Payne, Bubblehead Productions

Now this is a bit different, in that it's a pilot.

Aroma of Troma: The Toxic Avenger Part II (1989)

The Toxic Avenger Part II (1989) dir. Lloyd Kaufman, Michael Herz, Lorimar Film Entertainment/Troma Entertainment

By now Troma was established and even making ways into the mainstream. Why not revisit what put them on the map in the first place?

Aroma of Troma: Student Confidential (1987)

Student Confidential (1987) dir. Richard Horian, Longwood Productions/Troma Entertainment

Aroma of Troma: Igor and the Lunatics (1985)

Igor and the Lunatics (1985), dir. Billy Parolini, Troma Entertainment

Moving into the horror section, we see a film so disjointed the making of it might very well qualify for a horror film itself.

Tuesday, August 24, 2021

Aroma of Troma: Malibu Hot Summer (1981)

Malibu Hot Summer (1981), dir. Richard Brander, Troma

Yeah, Kevin Costner in a Troma film.

Monday, August 23, 2021

Aroma of Troma: Waitress! (1981)

Waitress! (1981) dirs. Lloyd Kaufman/Michael Hertz, Fat Chance Films/Troma Entertainment

Generally when a film name drops better films on the poster, that is a bad sign.

Aroma of Troma: Schwartz: The Brave Detective (1973)

Schwartz: The Brave Detective (1973),dir. Ami Artzi, Lloyd Kaufman, Troma Team Video

Delving back into the murky waters of Troma, we once again take a look at one of the earlier offerings from Mister Kaufman, and what was until Tales from the Crapper the single biggest bomb Troma had ever made.

Return to Innsmouth (1999)

Return to Innsmouth (1999) dir. Aaron Vanek, Some Company/Beyond Books

Moving back to a proper adaptation, we see a quant jaunt through a picturesque New England town.

The House on Dame Street (1999)

The House on Dame Street (1999) dir. Ruari Robinson, Image Now Films

The animated short, and the first one from Ireland. As the credits say, LOOSELY based on "the Strange Case of Charles Dexter Ward".

Basically, a private investigator goes to check out house on Dam Street. He's in a bind, as he is not the first person hired to check out the strange goings on but he is the only one still alive. Can he figure out the mystery in time?

Given that's its only five minutes there's not much time to get into things. The visuals are decent for the time but it doesn't end so much as stop, and when I say loosely, I mean loosely. Honestly seems to have nothing what so ever to do with Lovecraft but I was unable to find anything about the 1997 short based on From Beyond, not even a cast list.

Never Hike in the Snow (2020)

Never Hike in the Snow (2020) dir. Vincente DiSanti, Womp Stomp Films

So, back for the only Friday the 13th of the year. Still out of official films, but our friends at Womp Stomp did another entry, so why not take a look at that?

Friday, August 6, 2021

The Hound (1997)

The Hound (1997) dir. Anthony Penta, Pentaworks

The first published mention of the Necronomicon and the Mad Arab, Abdul Alhazread. Dare we continue?

Updates and upcoming work

Just realized today is the 40th anniversary of MTV. 24 hour music gave way to reality TV and Step Brothers reruns.

Still, the idea is nice.

Also this past December saw the end of the El Ray Network, which rather saddened me. Heck, if you said 'D, come up with a channel', that's pretty much what I'd have. Wrestling, monster movies, lucha movies, weird cartoons, Troma...pretty much everything I liked. Didn't have enough classic anime, but eh, still good. It aired its last show on December 31st with a rerun of Lucha Underground. Not even a fond farewell like Chiller.

This month will see the return of the Aroma of Troma, September will see a brand new feature, and horror stalks aplenty in October.
