Aroma of Troma: Student Confidential (1987)

Student Confidential (1987) dir. Richard Horian, Longwood Productions/Troma Entertainment

This...wow. Drama? Comedy? Even I'm not sure how to describe this one.

Michael Drake (Richard Horian) is rich. Very, so very rich and he wants to give back to the community; thus he becomes a school guidance counselor. In particular he finds four students he wants to focus on:

Johnny (Eric Douglas)-tough talking punk but is there something under his bluster?

Joseph (Marlon Jackson)-nerd who has his future planned out, but does he?

Susan (Susie Scott)-she longs to be seen as beautiful, but can she overcome the imperfection in her face?

Elaine (Elizabeth Singer)-the bad girl of the sect, is there more to her?

Horian both over and under acts. He suddenly snaps and screams at Joseph about how he needs to experience life, to LIVE DAMN IT! Then goes right back to his monotone. He creeps over Susan but he's just trying to build her confidence, really. Even his motive as to why he quit his job is done in such a way to make you question the whole scene. He delivers his lines like an alien who is pretty sure but not quite sure on how this whole 'hu-man' thing is supposed to go.

Utterly baffling.
