Aroma of Troma: Schwartz: The Brave Detective (1973)

Schwartz: The Brave Detective (1973),dir. Ami Artzi, Lloyd Kaufman, Troma Team Video

Delving back into the murky waters of Troma, we once again take a look at one of the earlier offerings from Mister Kaufman, and what was until Tales from the Crapper the single biggest bomb Troma had ever made.

Gus (Bomba Tzur) and his partner Harry (Yosef Shiloach) are detectives. Their latest case? Seems Mrs. Mitchell is convinced her son's ex-wife Ethel is going around town with another man.

The chase is on, because if they don't bring the evidence to her by the end of the night, neither one gets paid. The problem is Ethel and her boy-toy Dr. Lux know they are being followed, so plans are put into motion. Can our heroes get the goods?

Yeah, I'm starting to see Mr. Kaufman's objection to this. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but I just didn't get the jokes. Plus it wasn't released (escaped?) onto home video until 2009, to give you a hint. The bombing of this family friendly flick, however, would help steer Kaufman into another direction, one we'll be looking at throughout the week.
