Never Hike in the Snow (2020) dir. Vincente DiSanti, Womp Stomp Films
So, back for the only Friday the 13th of the year. Still out of official films, but our friends at Womp Stomp did another entry, so why not take a look at that?
Mark Hill (Courtlan Gordon) is a hiking enthusiast, just like his hero Kyle McLeod (Andrew Leighty). And like his hero, Mark has found the perfect winter hiking spot, a deserted summer camp.
Pity his encounter doesn't go the same as Kyle's, as we first see Mark hauling ass across a snowy plain, Jason (Vincente DiSanti) in hot pursuit. Mark's in trouble too, as Jason ditches the slow stalk with a machete and opts for a bow & arrow. Mark is taken down easily and Jason soon has another kill notch.
His mother, Diane (Anne Campbell), is quite worried when Mark doesn't come back. Calls are sent, and soon Sheriff Rick Cologne (Vincent Guastaferro) is on the case. Nice to see that the former deputy got promoted.
The sheriff, having gone through this once before, isn't a dummy. Camp Crystal Lake, night time, and a missing hiker? He consoles the mother as best he can, but Deputy Alan (Bryan Forrest) see himself as more dedicated than his boss and opts to explore the ruined camp. Even Tommy Jarvis (Thom Matthews) can see this is a bad idea, but as usual no one listens to him.
Pretty good and despite being a prequel builds the characters. Having the actual actors from Part 6 is a nice touch.
