TFtember: Transformers#3

"Prisoner of War!" the Transformers#3 (January 1985) with credits to Jim Salicrup (script), Frank Springer (pencils), Kim DeMulder and Mike Esposito (inks), Nelson Yomtov (colors), Janice Chiang (letters), and Bob Budiansky (editor)

Sparkplug is taken to the Decepticon base, where he is ordered to convert Earth fuel to something more agreeable to the Decepticons. He refuses but is worn down enough to agree. Starscream, Soundwave, and Rumble hit the area to steal the supplies needed to do this, which gets them on the attention of several radars, including SHIELD and the Daily Bugle.

Yup, this gets Peter Parker sent out to cover the giant robots attacking. The Army finds the Decepticon's base but can't do much about it. Peter changes to Spider-Man and finds the Autobot Gears. There's the standard hero team-up fight then they realize they're on the same side and team up. They manage to fight their way through the enemy and rescue Sparkplug, but once back at the Autobot base the elder Whitwicky confesses to what he did. The Autobots aren't happy...

With this we are firmly in the Marvel Universe, although that would create some more headaches down the road, continuity-wise.

Pretty good, although honestly we could have just had Gears rescue Sparkplug and ignore Spidey all together. Although that would deny this the nice cover, so never mind.
