Camshaft
Yeah, going deep on this one where we take a look at the Omnibots.
Yeah, the Omnibots. The first sub faction in Transformers, only available via mail order. I loved looking at the catalogs that came with the toys, seeing the stuff that you couldn't get in stores.
The Omnibots were your standard robot into car, the twist being that you could pop out wings or weapons in their car mode.
Camshaft went from robot to Mazda RX-7 Series 2 (which funny enough didn't even have a camshaft), with the added bonus that could shorten the trunk and keep his laser cannon out. Looked a little funny with his hands still sticking out though.
The American release of the toy didn't have a file card, although the Japanese did. Seemed Camshaft acted mostly as a scout, although he seemed adverse to battlefield heroics.
For the comics, Camshaft had little to work with, never appearing in the Marvel series. He did make some cameos in the mangas and the Dreamwave comics but those were often limited to a single panel.
As for the cartoon he never even showed up.
