Chilean Gothic (2000) dir. Ricado Harrington, Kaos Producciones
And thus we end the Summer of Love(craft).
Gabriel Martinez (Rodrigo Sepulvada) is a reporter. His latest story is also his obsession, namely who killed Anibal Neira (Gilberto Villarroel)? Martinez and Neira were friends, you see, and the latter's death has been weighing heavily on the former.
Neira's last article would have been a feature on the reclusive artist Richard Upton Pickman (Renzo Oviedo). Pickman's work had been drawing rare reviews, given the vivid and lurid nature of the paintings. Martinez tracks down a professor (Luis Alarcon), who claims Pickman told him that he was simply inspired by Chilean folklore, but the professor isn't so sure. He also tells Martinez that Pickman was last seen in the town of Santiago.
So off Martinez sets, but can he handle what he finds?
Good, although subtitles would have helped a great deal.
