The main focus of this story is the first appearance of Tom Kalmaku, better known as a vaguely racist slur. TLDR version: Some years ago, Tom's dad and his partner struck it rich in the wilds of the Yukon. Tom's dad returned home to die whereas his partner seems to have vanished.
Hal realizes a problem when he sees disguised men beat the tar out of Tom; seems Tom inherited his father's love of maps but not the map itself. It's not a problem, as Hal is able to scan Tom's brain and see what Tom couldn't quite recall.
Yeah, Duke is just a nickel and dime level crook, hiding out and learning where some treasure is buried before the owners find it isn't the win you think.
Hal getting an adult sidekick who knows who he is, which is a twist for the time, is also the biggest thing about the issue but Tom is no Jimmy Olson
