The Italian Superman-Superstars Profile#24

Bruno Sammartino
Real name: Bruno Sammartino
Home: Abruzzo, Italy
Membership: Superstars
A.K.A.: N/A
Finisher: Bearhug

Background: Growing up in the Italian countryside, Bruno knew hardship. He and his mother had to steal from German camps for food. After the war, Bruno and his family moved to Pittsburgh and Bruno swore he would never go hungry or be pushed around again.

Throwing himself into physical training alongside his collage courses, Bruno knew he could make a difference in the world. Remembering Toots Mondt, Bruno approached Vince J. McMahon about putting together a team to fight for the common good.

And thus was born the Superstars!

The roster changed a bit during the 60's, but there was one constant-Bruno was the leader. Taking on "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers or Professor Toru Tanaka-didn't matter. Bruno fought for the people, but age makes fools of us all and by the time the 1970's rolled around Bruno decided to hand off the reigns of leadership to Pedro Morales. Not to say Bruno was gone; no, he still fought the good fight be it New York City or Tokyo.

Bruno slowed down a bit but he finally retired in 1987, fighting alongside Hulk Hogan against King Kong Bundy and One Man Gang. He acted briefly as a reporter alongside former teammate Gorilla Monsoon before taking off to wander the world offering his advice and aide to anyone who asked.
