Shark Week: The Shark Hunter (1979)

The Shark Hunter (1979) dir. Enzo G. Castellari, Tei Film International/Arca Films

Another Jaws knockoff? Not quite...

Mike (Franco Nero) is a man's man. His typical day? Wake up, kill a shark, make love to Juanita (Patricia Rivera), then hang out in a bar and beat the hell of local thugs while knocking back beers.

Also, he goes parasailing. Sure, being lifted up the air by a speeding boat is fun, but when he spots a shark? He cuts himself loose and drops into the water to pick a knife fight with a beasty.

Now this sounds like a heck of a film already, but sadly into this garden of booze and sex comes a snakes. A group of thugs know where a loot laden plane crashed but none of them know the waters. Pressganging Mike into helping them, can Mike brave the deep, outwit the goons and keep his best gal safe?

More a knockoff of the Deep than Jaws, the thin plot is more than saved by Franco Nero, the music, and the setting.
