Castle Freak (2020)

Castle Freak (2020) dir. Tate Steinsiek, Fangoria

And our Summer of Love(craft) continues with the only film released since last time.

The film begins a bit similar to the previous one. Rebecca (Clair Catherine) has not been having a good time. She became blind after drunken boyfriend John (Jake Horowitz) wrecked his car. A bright side though, she just became rich. Seems her long lost mother, Lavinia Whatley (Kika Magalhaes) died and left her a massive castle deep in Albania.

If you saw the previous film, you know Rebecca isn't an only child and her sibling is both eager to meet her and is a bit peckish. Rebecca doesn't know at the moment though. No, she wants to keep the castle to help her learn about her mother and family. John wants to sell it for a fast buck.

John, meanwhile, has invited a bunch of his friends over for a party. One of them, the Professor (Chris Galust), is the only decent one of the group and helps Rebecca with her search. During which we find a bit more about dear ol mama Whatley. Seems Lavinia and her husband were worshippers of Yog-Sothoth, with Rebecca and her sibling being conceived during a ceremony. When Rebecca came out normal, she was sent away. Lavinia made it clear that if she were to return and grasp her sibling's hand in hers, the gate to Yog-Sothoth would be complete and hell will follow.

Drunken parties, demonic rituals, and the Necronomicon? Yeah, this ends well.

Not terrible, but they seem to blending as many Lovecraft stories as they can.
