Shark Week: Cyclone (1978)

Cyclone (1978), dir. Rene Cardona, Jr. Corporacion Nacional Cinematografica/Productora Filmica Real

We return to the works of Cardona, whom eagle eyed viewers might recall from last year's Shark Week as the director behind Tintorera. This would be his follow up to that.

A plane takes off in the Caribbean. You know things are bad when the pilot is Hugo Stiglitz. Twenty minutes later they hit a massive cyclone.

Into the drink they go and after what seems like an eternity, sharks come a-calling. Despite, starving, and now thoroughly sick of each other, who will be the first to have a full belly, the passengers or the sharks?

Yup, we've crossed the streams here. Much like Tintorera was a shark attack/sexploitation mix, this one is a cannibal flick crossed with a shark. Original, if nothing else. The cast is a bit of utter jackasses and they stay turned to 11 through the film. The use of raw meat as a stand in for the shark attack victims is pretty unique, I have to give them that.
