Colour from the Dark (2008)

Colour from the Dark (2008) dir. Ivan Zuccon, Studio Inerzona

We're winding down this Summer of Love(craft) again for the last time but we checked out the Nicholas Cage version, I found a few more takes on HP's tale of terror from the stars.

1943 Italy and a small country farm is puttering by. Pietro (Michael Segal), his wife Lucia (Debbie Rochon), and his mute little sister Alice (Marysia Kay) are the only occupants. Pietro, what with his bum leg and all, was denied a spot in the army and puts his energy into running the farm.

One day while getting the bucket, he sees a strange flash of light deep in the well. It doesn't seem to affect the water that much, so he ignores it. Turns out maybe he shouldn't have. In just a day Alice starts talking, his leg's healed up and his crops are giant! Everything's turning out great!

Then the crops all rot and everyone starts going crazy.

Pretty good; Rochon steals the show as the formerly timid housewife turned into homicidal. Low budget but the Italian countryside more than makes up for that.
