My Friend, Dr. Jekyll (1960) dir. Marino Girolami, CEI Incom/Produzione Cinematografica M.G.
Back for spooks and scares and why not open this season with some Jekyll and Hyde?
Giacinto Floria (Ugo Tognazzi) is a teacher at a reform for wayward girls. He's beloved by his classes, respected by his peers, and even engaged to the beautiful Mafalda de Matteis (Abbe Lane). Yup, his life is nothing but skittles and beer. What could possibly go wrong?
Professor Fabius (Raimondo Vianello) would be happy to answer that question. Fabius is pretty much the exact opposite of Floria, in that he's disrespected by everyone plus women treat him like he's a freak. He's sure he's being shunned because he isn't the masculine ideal, with the idea that him being a creepy jackass never occurring to him.
But he has a plan! In his secret lab, because of course he has a secret lab, Fabius has the idea to switch his mind with the physically perfect Floria. When Floria comes to, he's a bit puzzled. When Fabius decides to keep his experiment going, Floria hires private detective Arguzio (Carlo Croccolo) to find out what's happening to him. Can Floria figure out what's happening?
Not as skeezy as it could be but a fairly light piece of fluff. The idea is certainly a fresh take, with Hyde and Jekyll being totally separate.
