Horror Host 2021 Retrospective: Moana

Real name: Kim Norris

Years active: 1984

Moana was the not quite host with the most when she debuted on WTTE-TV Channel 28 out of Columbus with Moana's Place with syndication in Pittsburgh on WPTT-TV Channel 22 some months later.

Not terrible, but clearly cribbing more than a bit from Elvira. She had skits in-between the flicks, which apparently were better than the films shown.

  1. I used to watch this while I was attending Devry in Columbus. I was 17 when it began airing. I worked for Westerville dominos at the time, and would occasionally deliver pizza to the studio side door during the show, while recording it to watch later on my VCR. I always had the feeling that they must be partying/drinking in the studio, just by the way Kim Norris acted on-screen, as well as how whoever answered the door for the pizza would act. I only watched the show to see Kim (I was a single, 17 year old boy....), and even though she didn't have Elvira's repertoire, she was much more seductive. My memory could be foggy after all these years, but I seem to remember a lot of accidental (?) "flashing" while she squirmed on her couch, which back then on public TV was probably a bit too much for some people, and might be why the show was canceled, surely not because people weren't watching it, because everyone I knew was, just to see Kim. I saw a photo of her in costume on a website a few years back, but now I can't even find that! I'm pretty sure I have some episodes still on VHS somewhere. I know for sure I recorded the "City of the Living Dead" episode. I've been looking for my old tapes for a while now, if I do find them I'm going to post them on youtube for posterity.
