The Spider Woman Strikes Back (1946) dir. Arthur Lubin, Universal Pictures
Funny enough, not a Sherlock Holmes sequel.
Jean (Brenda Joyce) is a fresh faced young lass with ambition but few prospects. So when the elderly Zenobia (Gale Sondergaard) puts word out that she needs a companion, Jean answers and so joins the odd household.
Besides the blind Zenobia, the house also has Mario (Rondo Hatton). He's the general handyman but given that he is a deaf/mute he can't quite help Zenobia that much. Jean is thrilled to work for the old woman, but problems develop. Like, why is she so tired in the mornings? And why are cows dying off so quickly at the neighboring ranches?
Yeah we start out with a vampire-ish yarn then take a sharp turn into real estate scams. Disappointing to say the least.
