Horror 2019 Countdown: Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later (1998)

Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later (1998) dir. Steve Miner, Dimension Films/Nightfall Productions/Trancas International

After the confusion of part 6, it was decided to get back to basics and this is really the start of jumbled mess of the Halloween timelines.

October 29, 1998 and the infamous Michael Myers (Chris Durand) has been missing ever since the explosion at the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital back in 1978. Dr. Sam Loomis, who survived by with horrible burns, has recently passed away.

Nurse Chambers (Nancy Stephens), who was his caregiver, notices that someone has broken into his house. She and some neighbor kids go inside. Chambers finds that the file of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is missing. She also finds Michael inside doing some light reading, mostly on the part about Laurie faking her death and living under an assumed name.

Chambers doesn't have time to warn anyone.

In Summer Glen, California, Laurie has been a headmistress of the fancy Hillcrest Academy. She has a son, John (Josh Harnett) and a new beau Will (Adam Arkin) and horrible, horrible nightmares. With the majority of the students and staff on a school trip, the campus is largely empty save for them, a few students and a few security guards.

So naturally the place is perfect for a family reunion, but Michael isn't going to find a scared teenager. No, Laurie has been dreading and preparing for this moment for a while and she's going to kill that white masked freak once and for all.

If this had been the last time, it would have been a decent if unspectacular note to go out on. Ignoring 4,5,and 6 may have been for the best at least in regards to this story. LL Cool J adds some unnecessary comedic relief, as the late 90's horror films thought you needed people to reference or mock the story elements.
