Unmasking the Idol (1986), dir. Worth Keeter, Polo Players
The last ninja film for the year, why not end it on an insane vanity project?
Meet Duncan Jax (Ian Hunter)! He's a spy, an archeologist, and ninja, and his best friend is a baboon named Boon who wears a tux. Boon is also a ninja.
yeah, I could probably end the review right there, couldn't I?
We open with Jax breaking into a safe. When the guards show up, he effortlessly cuts through them and then escapes via his hot air balloon. He then makes his way to a casino where he beds a woman as easy as he kills a man.
That doesn't concern Star (CK Bibby), who, well, I'd say Jax's superior but that would be an oxymoron, wouldn't it? The guy Jax gets dangerous missions from, and this one is the MOST dangerous yet!
Goldtooth (Ron Campbell) has joined forces with the Scarlet Leader. That can't be good! And it isn't, as the Leader has a massive gold idol in his crocodile pit. Can Jax stop them? Do you have to ask?
A film with a background almost as mysterious as the idol itself, this is a genuine drive -in classic, in the mold of 'man, they don't make stuff like this anymore'.
