Shark Week: Open Water (2003)

Open Water (2003) dir. Chris Kentis, Lions Gate Films/Plunger Pictures LLC/Eastgate Pictures

And we're back with Shark Week! Moving more into survival horror, which always seemed apt for the theme, we see a tale based on a true story.

Daniel Kinter (Daniel Travis) and his girlfriend Susan Watkins (Blanchard Ryan) are a hard working couple; too hard working really as their jobs leave precious time to do things as a couple.

So that's why they're taking a couple's vacation! To go scuba diving!

Yup, no issues with that plan. Oh, things go swimmingly at first, at least until the tour boat captain counts another couple twice and ends up leaving Daniel and Susan stranded in seemingly the middle of the ocean.

From there things go from bad to worse. Will rescue come in time? Considering they both share their names with victims from Jaws, I'm leaning towards no.

Not horrible but this isn't exactly a flick I'd want to see on repeat. It doesn't do subtle, with the characters all be saying 'boy, getting lost at sea and eaten by sharks would be terrible, wouldn't it?"
