Shark Week: 12 Days of Terror (2004)

12 Days of Terror (2004), dir. Jack Sholder, Orly Addison Productions

Technically not a Jaws rip-off, as it was based on the event that inspired the book.

New Jersey, 1916

Lifeguard Alex (Colin Egglesfield) is chatting with his best pal Stanley (Mark Dexter) and his former best gal Alice (Jenna Harrison). It seems they want his opinion on the best kind of wedding cake.

A swimmer gets attacked by something. Alex and his fellow lifeguards rush into the surf and drag the poor fellow out. He's nearly missing a whole leg, which Alex blames a shark; however since he didn't see one exactly the mayor (Patrick Lyster) refuses to close the beach.

The Captain (John Rhys-Davis) believes him though, but since the cap is considered the local crazy that doesn't exactly raise Alex in the eyes of his fellows.

After the President gives a speech, the beaches are open and fuller than ever. Rookie lifeguard Danny (Jean Michael Joubert) goes out to bring in some kids from swimming out too far when a dorsal fin breaks the water.

Alex leads the rescue but Danny is missing some legs; also most of his blood and he dies.

From there Alex and the Captain team up as other experts are called in. Can they stop the attacks?

For a made for TV film, and an Animal Planet one at that, it's ok? Rhys-Davis is clearly slumming but everyone else is certainly trying their best.
