Shark Week: Spring Break Shark Attack (2005)

Spring Break Shark Attack (2005) dir. Paul Sharpio, Von Zemeck Sertner Films/Film Afrika Worldwide

And so we end Shark Week 2023, with a South African made for TV movie that aired on CBS of all things.

Shark Week: Raging Sharks (2005)

Raging Sharks (2005), dir. Danny Lerner, Nu Image Films/Tosca Pictures

Nearing the end.

Shark Week: Shark Attack in the Mediterranean (2004)

Shark Attack in the Mediterranean (2004) dir. Jorgo Papavassiliou, Action Concept film und Stuntproduktion

The title is honest at least.

Sven Hansen (Ralf Muller) is a pilot trying to move on from the death of his wife, plus worrying about his daughter wanting to spend more time in open water while in the Mediterranean. Can he romance the single marine biologist while also saving his daughter?

If you read the title, you can see where this is going.

There isn't much build up. Usually there are attacks early on, slowly cluing us in that there's a shark. Here? One attack and Hansen instantly knows it is a shark on the prowl.

The action is ok. For a made TV German flick, this isn't horrible.

Shark Week: Blue Demon (2004)

Blue Demon (2004) dir. Daniel Grodnik, Marla's Garden Company/Unified Film Organization

Sadly, not a film based on the luchador.

Shark Week: 12 Days of Terror (2004)

12 Days of Terror (2004), dir. Jack Sholder, Orly Addison Productions

Technically not a Jaws rip-off, as it was based on the event that inspired the book.

Monday, July 24, 2023

Shark Week: Dark Waters (2003)

Dark Waters (2003) dir. Phillip J. Roth, United Film Organization

Well, this was a film alright.

Dane Quatrell (Lorenzo Lamas) is a man's man. He's a marine researcher, martial artist, and he's searching for Atlantis.

Naturally this makes him the perfect man for Mr. Summerville's (Bruce Gray) needs. His latest project: an oil rig by the way, has run into a problem and only a man of Quatrell's skills be of use.

And did I mention Quatrell's father issues? Yup, dear old dad was Dr. Quatrell (Ross Manarchy) who just so happened to have vaniashed at sea some years ago.

So when Quatrell and his assembled team arrive at the rig, they find traces that something attacked the crew, something fast and mobile in the water-maybe something like a shark?

Yeah, this was a film. Lamas barely does a thing, and when you are wasting a talent like Lamas that is too step a hurdle for me. I suppose I should be impressed that someone is ripping off Deep Blue Sea rather than Jaws, so that's something.

Shark Week: Open Water (2003)

Open Water (2003) dir. Chris Kentis, Lions Gate Films/Plunger Pictures LLC/Eastgate Pictures

And we're back with Shark Week! Moving more into survival horror, which always seemed apt for the theme, we see a tale based on a true story.

UWF Fury Hour Rebooking Episode 91

 6-20-1992

Reseda Country Club

Announcers: Craig DeGeorge and Captain Lou Albano

Herb Abrams comes out. He's pleased with Beach Brawl 2. Not pleased with the Global Wrestling Federation, not pleased at all though, as he thought they would supply more wrestlers. Thus he'll be keeping the Brass Knuckles title, and if GWF wants it back they are welcome to take from Mr. Cactus Jack.

Speaking of PPV's, he has a brand new one in mind-Blackjack Brawl! Coming this September!

Colonel Red sits down with the Dogs of War. David is pensive. The Blackhearts have the title, Allen kept his, but Rude and Luna didn't come through. Rude is annoyed by this, but no matter. If he didn't get the title last week he'll get it next time. This clearly doesn't sit well with Strong but he holds off. He instead turns his fury on Luna. She's 5 to 5, so not exactly raising the bar. If she loses one just one more match-she's out!

Luna does not exactly take this well but Rotton Robin smirks from the sidelines.

Captain Lou Albano sits down with the new commissioner, Paul Orndorff. He's casually dressed. What's going to change? Not much; he'll be more hands on than Bruno-no disrespect to the man. He's also in talks with more promotions to bring in more talent.

Next we have a profile piece on the current champs.

"Dr. Death" Steve Williams

Bad News Allen

The Blackhearts (Apocalypse and Destruction)

All his life, Cactus Jack wanted respect. If he couldn't get that, he'd settle for fear. So with the Brass Knuckle title in his hands, he can get both. A division, that allows-no, DEMANDS pain? That sound like a match made in Heaven! Bang Bang!

Naturally Red wants to know who he's going to face. Cactus Jack turns on the sweaty man in the white suit. That would be telling! Cactus storms off the set, leaving Red speechless.
