TFtember: Transformers#17

"The Smelting Pool!" the Transformers#17 (June 1986) with credits to Bob Budiansky (script), Don Perlin (pencils), Keith Williams (inks), Nel Yomtov (colors), Janice Chiang (letters), and Mike Carlin (editor)

Say, how have things been on Cybertron?

Pretty bad as it turns out. Autobot Blaster and his best pal Scrounge are ducking the various Decepticon patrols.

Scrounge manages to infiltrate the local Decepticon HQ and in the course of his sneaking, discovers something of Earth-shattering importance! He then gets captured, tortured, and chucked into the smelting pool for good measure.

Blaster, when he fails to find his pal, wants to organize a rescue party. Local Autobot cell leader Preceptor vetoes the idea, as they can't afford to lose any more troops for the sake of one spy. Blaster tells him where to put his veto and heads out.

And he is promptly captured. He gets tossed in the pool, which is where he wanted to go in the first place. He was right to do so, as Scrounge is still alive, barely. He knows this, however and gives Blaster his intel. The Autobots storm the base and rescue Blaster, who is forced to leave the dying Scrounge in the pool. He gets revenge though, but what was the intel?

A coded message sent from a small insignificant planet. A message from Megatron though, who requests Decepticon aide to help him crush Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots. This is rather good news as a word quickly spreads among the Autobot cells.

Pretty good and a great job of introducing Blaster and seeing how Cybertron has developed since Prime and Megatron left.
