Horror Countdown 2018: The Invisible Menace (1938)

The Invisible Menace (1938) dir. John Farrow, Warner Brothers

And we end the look back at Boris Karloff with one of his more obscure films. By now Karloff was firmly a character actor, but horror was never far away.

Private Eddie Pratt (Eddie Craven) is really ready to serve his country. Yup, nothing he loves more than apple pie and Uncle Sam...except he just got married. Since his orders came in, he and his unit have been ordered to an isolated island for training. Rather than risk being AWOL, Pratt comes up with the brilliant idea to sneak his wife Sally (Marie Wilson) onto the island and get in a honeymoon at what I assume is fifteen minute intervals.

The catch is while catching up on their nuptials they stumble across a dead body. Col. Rogers of Army Intelligence is on the case though, but who did it? Was it Jevries (Karloff)?

Short and firmly in the b movie genre. Everything is overwrought and murky. Not terrible, but honestly feels more like a short that someone forgot to edit.
