Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) dir. Adam Marcus, Sean S. Cunningham Films

And we're nearing the final stretch. After the last one, where Jason found himself changed back into a child before being washed away by the nightly flood of toxic waste, Paramount sold the whole property to New Line Cinema. They did promise something big, but did they deliver?
A lovely young woman arrives at Camp Crystal Lake and proceeds to strip down to her all together in preparation for a bath when Jason (Kane Hodder) breaks in. He gives chase, at least until the woman arrives at a clearing...when the hockey masked murderer promptly finds himself in the spotlight and crosshairs of the FBI.

One airstrike later, and what's left of Jason is being scooped up and hauled off to the local morgue. The corner (Richard Gant) examines the black heart of Voorhees when a funny feeling comes over him and he eats the heart. Jason is back and the killing kicks off again.

American Case File is on the case, and host Robert Campbell (Steven Culp) interviews bounty hunter Creighton Duke (Steven Williams). Duke claims he knows the only way to kill Jason, and for 500,000 bucks he'll do just that. Campbell is skeptical, but he ponies up the cash provided Duke can deliver.

Duke heads over to Crystal Lake, where the town is celebrating. At the local diner, he catches the eye of waitress Diana Kimble (Erin Gray). He makes it clear he needs to talk to her, but his attitude gets her boyfriend Sheriff Landis (Billy Bush) annoyed, and Duke ends up in the local lockup.

Diana, unnerved, talks to her daughter's ex Steven (John D. LeMay) and begs him to come by her house that night so she can reveal something to him.

Corner/Jason, meanwhile, is busy. After slaughtering a group of hitchhikers, he snags Deputy Josh (Andrew Bloch) and drags him back to the Voorhees homestead. There he spit a worm into Josh's mouth, thus taking over the deputy.

Deputy/Jason and Steven arrive at Diana's place at the same time. After a short and brutal fight, Diana is dead and Steven is standing over her body when the sheriff arrives. Before Diana dies, she begs Steven to look after her daughter Jessica (Kari Keegan). Steven ends up in the cell next to Duke.

After breaking a few fingers and jail, Steven is brought up to speed. To wit, Diana's proper surname isn't Kimble...but Voorhees. Also, only someone with Voorhees blood can kill Jason. Can Steven rescue Jessica? Will Duke get his revenge?

Interesting? I mean, they did something different certainly. The in-jokes work, although questions get raised. Other people have pointed out, but Jason had a sister? And a mansion? Where did Duke get the magic dagger? And why does he want revenge on Jason? Deleted scenes answer the last one, but that's it.

Not the worse thing, and probably not the worse film in the series, but it would have been better if they had listened to the title.
