Beware the Batman: Allies

"Allies" Beware the Batman  Cartoon Network, 14 September 2013

Back again with another Batman episode

Recap, Katana is now officially part of the Bat family.

-Tobias Whale is back. Also, it seems that Simon Stagg was finally arrested. While Whale is breaking into Stagg's holdings, Batman shows up and makes short work of him.

-And Bat is back to being a dick. It seems while Gordon was actually following the law to bring Whale down, Batman decided to skip that whole silly thing and just beat him up. Gordon points out that Batman isn't a cop and orders his arrest. It goes about as well as you would think.

-Some comedy; it seems Katana's new outfit is a solid piece of rubber [sort of like Baymax from Big Hero 6]. Bats brings up a good point in that she needs to be safe, but if she can't raise her arms wouldn't that make her less safe?

-So Katana is finally named Katana here and she picks her costume-street clothes and a domino mask. She's only covering her cheek bones, wouldn't people figure out who she is? At least here they have a better reason for her codename, i.e. it was her codename during her time in the League and she wants them to know who she is.

-Meanwhile, Gordon is grilling Whale. Whale's lawyer makes an offer-let him go and drop all charges. Gordon laughs this off, but at his house his daughter Barbara is suddenly grabbed...

-Gordon now knows of the kidnapping and confronts Whale. Whale does everything but say "Yup, I ordered and here are the records to prove it". I know Gotham is suppose to be a corrupt hellscape, but kidnapping is a federal offense. Whale is assuming the by the book won't call in the FBI and that seems kind of dumb.

-Gordon makes the Bat Signal. Batman appears and says he not only knows about Barbara's abduction but he's been looking all night. So the scenes with Katana were from yesterday?

-Some forward thinking on Batman's part, as it seems he planted tracking devices on some of Whale's men when Whale was taken by Humpty Dumpty. It seems a large group of them are hiding out in the Cauldron, a no man's land ignored by the city and populated by the Ghosts, small time crooks and implied homeless.

-The Cauldron is also home to a bunch of empty warehouses. Whale's men occupy three of them. Batman makes it clear that he and he alone will search the area. Katana is to stay and help Alfred, not disobey his orders and save him at the last minute or anything.

-Whale's lawyer Milo Match is the one with Barbara and tries some smooth talking on the Ghosts. He promises a full tanker of fuel if the Ghosts will hold onto Barbara for a bit. Barbara points out how stupid this plan is; if Match gives them the fuel now, what is to stop them from bailing at the first sign of trouble? Also, when you become homeless in Gotham, they give you white ninja costumes that let you blend into the shadows.

-I think Alfred just quoted Megaforce

-Pretty good fight scene between Bats and the Ghosts

-and of course Katana shows up and saves Batman. This is a bit muddled; Katana fights and proves herself, yet at the same time she still needs to be shown up by the Batman.

-A standoff is interrupted by Gordon and Whale. Also, it seems Match is secretly Phosphorus Rex, who can burn anything with his touch.

-Including the fuel truck Match brought with him, which ends up burning out his flame.

-A reply from the Dark Knight at the end where Batman takes the blame for Whale's release. Not terrible, and we do see some nice interaction between Batman and Gordon, but Whale's plan still makes no sense.

-Be here next time when we see another Chuck Dixon character.
