Based on the DC character, viewers would tune every week to see Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) battle a variety of colorful foes.
This show was my, and I suspect many other's, first exposure to Batman. For a while it was cool to dump on it; camp has been used more than once, but really this was probably the most faithful depiction of the character ever seen at this point.
Seriously, go and read some Batman stories from 1965. Grim and gritty they were not.
Adam West was perfect as Batman and millionaire Bruce Wayne as he played it perfectly straight. The sillier the situation the straighter he was. Batman was, in West's own words, the perfect square which just made the stories even better.
But it was the villains who made the stories. Might do a separate series on them, so keep an eye out.
Of course the impact was felt afterwards. It seemed anytime someone wrote about comics they had to put 'Bam' 'Zowie' comics aren't for kids anymore' in every headline, which in turn meant any hero in media had to be "grim and gritty".
Overall still holds up.
