As the 90's wore on, so did the works of Lovecraft. By now it seemed the theaters had seen the last of Providence's favorite son, but the small screen was still an option.
We open with HP Lovecraft himself (Christopher Heyerdahl) discussing his work. He insists that he isn't some mere hack fiction writer, no, but rather giving us humans a look at something that exists beyond the keen of man...
We then switch to Randolph Carter (Art Kitching), who has just discovered he inherited a box from a long lost uncle. Opening it once alone, he finds inside a copy of the Necronomicon, alongside letters from his uncle and Lovecraft.
When Carter dreams, he finds himself in his uncle's body, experiencing the old man's adventures as a youth with Lovecraft. They discuss dreams and the effects they have on the waking world, but is Carter being drawn into something far more sinister?
Not bad, although it feels less like a made for TV film and more school project. The performances save it though, and make it worth seeing for those alone.
