Beware the Batman: Attraction

"Attraction " Beware the Batman, Cartoon Network, 27 July 2014

Debuting almost a year after the last episode, and wouldn't you know it I missed taping the first five minutes.

we open with Magpie and Lunkhead in Blackgate Penitentiary. Both of them are in their costumes, because that makes sense.

And I'm pretty sure that guard is dead. Also, why would they have men and women sharing the same cell block?

Katana and Batman have a chat, although I have to ask why Katana is on her motorbike and Bats in his car. Does Batman just like to put his feet up? And it seems the real reason he's been visiting Magpie in prison is so he can 'know his enemy'. Huh

Catching up on the plot, it seems Magpie is convinced that Batman is seeing her and wants to be with her. So naturally she has to kill Katana first for some reason.

"I'm on the side of sanity! You're both out of control" Yes bats, your partner is totally out of control what with defending herself and trying to capture the insane burglar who wants to kill her.

So naturally Magpie uses this moment to escape and blow up the Batmobile. She goes on a tear through Gotham, leaving bat shaped piles at her crime scenes. This can only mean they're working together.

Now Magpie gets the 'embrace the darkness within' spiel, but Magpie was  never about darkness or embracing anything other than shiny things. Also, I'm pretty sure magpies (the birds) don't have poisoned talons.

Katana disobeys orders, although this time it ends with her being captured. Magpie leaves a series of numbers, but it takes Batman to figure out it's a web address. Magpie has Katana tied up in a coffin with 30 minutes of air. Very CSI-ish.

Wait, so when Margret Sorrow became Magpie, Gotham City issued her a death certificate and buried an empty coffin? That seems like a lot of effort.

Hmm, it seems Katana isn't in Sorrow's casket. We saw Batman digging and Katana clawing at the wood, but all she got was a lot of dirt. Bit of a cheat, but a nice twist.

Katana still manged to claw her way free though, so she was only buried a few inches? That seems more of a hassle than a death trap.

"You're a pale imitation of me!" No Magpie, no she isn't. How would that even work?

"Time to put that loony bird back in her padded cage" or you call an ambulance since I'm pretty sure her insides have been crushed by by that giant headstone.  Len Wein wrote this. Overall better than the other episodes, but that's not saying much.

Next time we'll see the return of Lady Shiva
