Crack-Up (1936), dir. Malcolm St. Clair, 20th Century Fox
Lorre's career was holding steady, 1936 saw him playing the lead in the Mr. Moto series but here he started to work for Fox.
The Fleming-Grant Airways is unveiling their latest model. President Fleming (Ralph Morgan) shows off the plane's test pilots, Ace Martin (Brian Donlevy) and Joe Randall (Thomas Beck).
Ignored by most is Colonel Gimpy (Lorre), a simple fellow who only loves planes. Unknown by them, he's really Baron Tagger, top European spy.
Tagger wears down Martin enough to work for him, but one of the baron's men (J. Carol Naish) is working for another country. The plane's maiden voyage to Berlin is scheduled to go off. Will Ace betray his country?
Decent. Lorre hadn't gotten into the typecast portion but his baron is still creepy enough that you wonder how anyone would let him enter any place.
