Teenage Caveman (1958) dir. Roger Corman, Malibu Productions
Roger Corman in the 50's was cranking out films plenty for the drive-in circuit, four in 1958 alone.
You can't say the title is a complete lie. There are cavemen, although most of them look on the southside of 30. One tribe barely eeks out a living on a blasted and rocky patch of dirt, despite a lush and green field just on the other side of the only river.
It seems to be forbidden to cross the river, though. Evil gods you know.
The Symbol Maker's Son (Robert Vaughn), however, thinks all of this is bunk. He gathers his friends and decides evil god or no evil god, he's going where crops can grow and hoofs it over the river. The tribal elders are most put out and a small group heads after them for justice.
Some misadventures follow, but ah, it seems there really is something lurking in that green valley. What is a teenage caveman to do?
Vaughn later said this was the worse film he ever did, and considering he did CHUD 2 that should tell you something. This would have been a perfectly middle of the road Twilight Zone episode, but stretched out to feature length? Utterly dull and ponderous. I'd stick with the MST3K version.
