Horror 2021 Countdown: Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster (1965)

Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster (1965) dir. Robert Gaffney, Futurama Entertainment Corp.

We're nearing the end of our Frankenstein lookback. So why not go into space?

Meet Col. Frank Saunders (Robert Reilly), America's newest space hero!

Yup, good 'ol Frank is one hundred percent All American and ready for the Space Race! His background? Never you mind that.

A press conference to introduce the hero before he leaves on America's first deep space probe ends with the colonel a stuttering mess. Dr. Adam Steele (James Karen) was worried about that as he takes Frank's head apart.

Yeah, Frank Saunders is actually a robot. Not bad for 1965, eh? So with some reservations, Frank is loaded into the shuttle and blasted off to parts unknown. At least he would have, if he hadn't run into the Martians.

Yes, Martians. Seems all their women folk died in a nuclear bomb save for their Princess Marcuzan (Marilyn Harold). She and Dr. Nadir (Lou Cutell) are on Earth looking for the ladies. Frank's capsule cross their path so naturally they blast the hell out of it, turning half of Frank's head into molten slag and sending the ship crashing into Puerto Rico. They follow him down and unleash Mull (Bruce Glover) on the island to hunt women while at the same time Frank's programing was damaged in the crash. Will the two monsters clash in an island paradise?

Well, it's original I'll say that. Shot cheaply they make the use of the island and the makeup. Cheap but it delivers what it promises.
