Horror 2020 Countdown: Indestructible Man (1956)

Indestructible Man (1956) dir. Jack Pollexfen, C.G.K. Productions

By now Lon Chaney was a solid B-movie actor, although he did manage score a bit parts in bigger A productions. This isn't one of them.

"Butcher" Benton (Chaney) is dead. Tried and sentenced to the gas chamber, his body is snatched away at the last minute when a scientist Dr. Bradshaw (Robert Shayne) finds himself in dire need for a body. Why?

FOR SCIENCE!

Well, officially it's an attempt to cure cancer. So the good doctor pumps the corpse full of various chemicals and shoots with a few million volts of electrical current. This somehow brings Benton back to life, albeit in a rather poor mood. He's also mute and bulletproof now.

Benton opts to thank the doc by killing him. With that done, he decides to pay a visit to his double crossing partners and his mouthpiece. Meanwhile, Lt. Dick Chasen (Casey Adams) has started romancing Benton's old squeeze, Eva (Marian Carr) after Benton told her where he stashed his loot.

From there we have a lot of narration from Chasen as he recounts Benton's movements and actions for the next few days.

A rough one to sit through. I'd suggest sticking with the version with the Bots.
