The Howling: Reborn (2011) dir. Joe Nimziki, Anchor Bay Films/Moonstone Entertainment/Quebec Film and Television Tax Credit/SODEC
The first Howling film since 1995 and the last so far. Did it go out with a howl or a whimper?
Katheryn Kidman (Ivana Millcevic) is stalked and killed by a wild animal. Her husband Jack (Frank Schorpion) is devastated but he does his best to raise his son alone.
Eighteen years later that boy has grown. Will (Landon Liboiron) is a pretty normal guy, all things considered. His best pal Sachin (Jesse Rath) loves horror movies, while Will only has eyes on Eliana (Lindsey Shaw). Eliana is spoken for though, and her boyfriend makes it clear his gal is off limits.
Eliana feels bad for Will though, and invites him to a rager at her place. The party goes more than out of control when a wild animal attacks and tears through the party guests. Will manages to escape but he goes right to Sachin with a question: Are werewolves real? When Will cuts his hand and it heals, that seems to answer his own question.
Will's day gets more complicated when Kay (Milcevic) arrives. Remember when Katheryn got attacked? Well, who so ever is bitten by a werewolf but does not die is cursed to become one themselves.
Kay would argue that last point however; yup she's a werewolf alright and she thinks its awesome! So much so she wants her baby boy in the pack and she ain't taking no for answer...
Better? I mean, when compared to New Moon Rising this is better than that but getting stomped on the foot is better than being shot. Clearly drawing more from Twilight than any of the other entries, it's attempts at being cool come across as Steve Buscemi going 'how's it going fellow kids'. Not the worst in the series and certainly not the worst film ever made but disappointing all the same.
