Horror Host 2025 Retrospective: Scarticia

 Real name: Unknown 

Years active: 1971-1975

Kicking off another year of fright and fear and this time out we take a look at the Magnolia State. Yes, Mississippi is kicking things off this year and we look at one of the first hosts, Scarticia. 

Her actual name? No idea, but she hosted Horrible Movies WAPT-TV Channel 16 out of Jackson. Not much info but it seems they roped the station secretary into the doing the job, but from all accounts she did a decent job. 

Her character seemed a not quite Vampira and not quite Morticia but she was good with the snark. Seems she was replaced as host but a couple of a guys with chainsaws but I was unable to find anything about them.

Huh. 

Interesting, and while this isn't a feature film it is a pure Troma production so I'm counting it. 

What is the Troma system? Why, only the handiest, dandiest system around! Yes, if you buy Troma films and related products, you too can change your life!*

We open with a gorgeous girl (Theressa Lynn) and a gorgeous guy (Ron Fazio) having an intimate moment, but they stop long enough to inform us that the next thirty minutes are going to blow our minds!

Yeah, this is basically an informercial asking you to buy from Troma directly. This aired a bit on Comedy Central in 1993. That was the new way of advertising back in the day but looking over the ad, you do get your money's worth. A VHS tape, signed poster, cassette, and a sticker. Not a bad haul for the money asked.

Huh, kind of weird seeing Troma really trying. Four gals enter Top Gun Naval Academy and pass with flying colors. They all enter the service but soon one of them is shot down over enemies lines. Are the other three going to take this laying down? 

Hell no!

So yeah, we've got a pinch of Top Gun with a healthy dose of Iron Eagle thrown in for good measure, plus recycled footage from the Final Countdown (so we're at war with Japan?)

Plenty of T&A, as Troma realized no one is watching this for the plot or special effects.
