With the 80's finally dead, how would the 90's welcome Lovecraft? Brian Yuzna, producer of the first

Herbert West tale, would take over as director. Yuzna was no stranger to the director's chair by this point, having the film Society under his belt by this point.

As the 80's wore on, Lovecraft's works had managed to earn a tidy niche in the horror market. "The Lurking Fear" was one of his longer stories, but there had no attempt to adapt it to the screen....until 1989. The story of strange horrors lurking in the Catskills had plenty of Lovecraft's New England horror and strange beings crawling into our world.

The Summer of Love(craft) continues. As the 1980's moved on, the success of the Re-Animator series brought Lovecraft back into the forefront of the viewing public. Going with one of Lovecraft's lesser known short stories, the Unnamable had Lovecraft's occasional hero Randolph Carter having a weird encounter in your typical New England graveyard.

Jason, he of the hockey mask and various sharp instruments, was dead, having been on the receiving end of a machete beat down. Sadly part four turned a tidy profit so Paramount had no choice but to bring the man behind the mask back...or did they?

The Spirit (1987)

The first draft of this review was roughly six pages of profanities directed at Frank Miller. For those not in the know, Will Eisner created the blue suit clad hero for the Register and Tribune Syndicate in 1940.

The character enjoyed decades in the funny papers, although Hollywood skipped Eisner's work by. When a big budget version was brought to the big screen in 2008 the results were...mixed. Despite Miller's general jackassery, that wasn't the first attempt to get the Spirit on a screen.


Made in 1986 but dumped on the viewing public in late summer of '87, the Spirit told how policeman Denny Colt became the Spirit.

2016 up and coming

2015 was about a twenty mile stretch of bad road, but it is over. For the new year, there will be some updates. This summer we'll see the return of the Summer of Love(craft). October will see more horror reviews and a special look at the horror hosts of the prairie when we take a look at the hosts of Illinois.
