Essential Showcase: Superman volume 4
Back again with another volume. This time out we look at Showcase Presents: Superman volume 4. Reprinting Action Comics I#293-310 and Superman I#157-167, which spanned 1962 through 1964. How does it hold up? Rather well all things consider.
By this point, Superman was fully in his trickster phase, mostly scheming to stop Lois Lane and Lana Lang from trying to marry him. There are some exceptional stories in this those. The first one (that's not imaginary) is the introducing of the planet Lexor (Superman#164), in which Lex Luthor challenges Superman to a fist fight on a world where they're both equal.
There are also plenty of imaginary stories, most notably when Superman is split into Superman-Blue and Superman-Red. Red Kryptonite is also used (one might even say overused) and Superman is turned into a variety of things.
The covers from this era tend to be talked about a lot, with the story promising Superman trying into a man sized ant or lion, but they also tend to end the same. Mostly Superman playing a trick on someone usually to flush out a gang.
Still, lot of good stories and art.

We have the return of the series debut villains, Professor Pyg and Mr. Toad. Can't hardly wait
-We open with a Lady Gaga-esque performer (hassled by all of two photographers) being menaced by the aforementioned Pyg and Toad. She maybe should haven't told them her outfit took six rare birds to make either.

Jet Dream part 3
In the old Jet Dream series, Ting's full name was "Ting a-Ling" and was "a South Seas beauty with the instincts of a panther but naive and innocent as a lamb". She also couldn't grasp the concept of first person. I figured why not have an actual character?

Random stuff from the archive: Jet Dream
Some of you may not be aware of Jet Dream and her Stuntgirl Counterspies. That might be a good thing. The character was originally a backup feature in Gold Key's Man from U.N.C.L.E. series. She did manage to snag an one issue special, but the public didn't bite and the character faded from memory.
But, thanks to the Internet few things go quietly into the the ether and there were a few retrospective pieces. I considered trying to publish the character, although I was unaware of the rights situation and didn't wish to get bogged down trying to obtain them from whoever owned them, plus as it turns out trying to self-publish requires a fair amount of capital. There was also a remix webcomic going around, although that seems to have gone silent.
So, in the end what do we have? A bunch of art that is gathering dust and some stories clogging the old gray matter. To alleviate that, I'll be introducing the characters here and there. Feel free to comment.
